Entertaining Notes

Fall is probably my favorite time of year to entertain. There is something about a chill in the air that brings thoughts of my childhood to mind. I can still smell the chili on the stove when I came home from band practice….chili, Mexican cornbread and sweet tea.

Although my Mother was not very social or big on showing affection, she was always the first to open her door to all of my friends and make them feel comfortable, welcome and wanted. There was always something wonderful to eat and Mother was always there to nurture us all. I realize now 50+ years later that the warmth of her table was not only about the food she prepared with love, but had more to do with her ability to listen, really listen and always encourage us to explore our ideas and passions. Nurture thru food and entertaining…don’t miss the opportunity to reach out to those you care about.
